Artist Statement
My work explores identity, symbolism, and emotional dialogue through contemporary figurative painting. As a woman of color, I create from intuition allowing energy, lived experience, and presence to guide my process. Rather than depicting literal portraiture, I approach the human form as a vessel for internal narrative, capturing moments of reflection, ceremony, and psychological stillness.
Each painting begins with sketches drawn directly onto the canvas to establish structure and spatial grounding. I develop the central figure first, allowing it to anchor both the visual and emotional gravity of the piece. From there, the surrounding environment evolves intuitively in response to the subject shaped by color, sensation, and symbolic suggestion rather than predetermined design.
Working primarily in concentrated sessions with acrylic paint, I prioritize immediacy in mark making to preserve authenticity and emotional presence within the figure. This approach balances intention with surrender, allowing instinct, intuition, and spontaneity to coexist with compositional control.
My background in interior design informs my sensitivity to balance, color harmony, and spatial awareness. I approach paintings as lived environments objects meant not only to be viewed, but to coexist within space, energy, and experience.
Through simplified forms and grounded palettes, my work invites viewers to locate themselves within the figure encouraging reflection on identity, memory, and personal narrative, and creating space for emotional recognition and connection.

Chris Bible is a Los Angeles based contemporary figurative artist and interior designer whose work explores identity, emotional presence, and symbolic storytelling through acrylic painting. Centering simplified human forms, her practice examines introspection, ceremony, and internal dialogue — using the figure as a space for reflection and psychological stillness.
Painting began for Chris as a deeply personal form of expression, a way to quiet the mind, release emotional weight, and move beyond the pressures of perfection imposed by the external world. Her studio practice functions as a portal: a space where presence replaces expectation, where imagination leads, and where she reconnects with play, intuition, and her inner child. Through the act of painting, she cultivates slowness, calm, and clarity, allowing emotion and instinct to guide visual storytelling.
Since beginning her painting practice in 2022, Chris has developed an intuitive visual language shaped by color sensitivity and spatial awareness informed by her background in interior design. This interdisciplinary perspective guides her approach to composition, where structure and atmosphere coexist and artwork is considered not only as an image, but as something that lives within and interacts with space.
Working through direct, responsive painting methods, she begins with sketches drawn onto the canvas that allow figures to emerge as emotional anchors.
